On Art

Occasionally there is that moment. That perfect moment where a creative spark catches on the dry pine needles of inspiration and rises into a roaring and powerful blaze that engulfs the surrounding world. The heat of true expression swallows the oxygen and distorts the air, leaving history with a work of art much larger than the artist. Larger than all of us.

Other times, you're sitting on the couch drunk on a Sunday afternoon and you happen upon something so bizarre that you just have to hit record. That's what I did anyways.

And I now present to you the most amazing public access show I have ever stumbled upon.

Meet Nancy. Her guests are Ellen and Donald, two songwriters from Long Island. In this clip, Nancy digs deep to find out what really drives these virtuosos and gets inside their process.

And now the main event, Ellen performs her song with assistance from back-up dancer Donald. It is the perfect collision of lazy preperation, poor technical prowess and lack of self-awareness.

Did you love it? I hope you left room because there is more. As an added bonus, Donald (aka Ecstasy, the world's first stripper/rapper) performs his single "I Need A Plus-Sized Woman". Hold onto something.

"The truth is that fullness of soul can sometimes overflow in utter vapidity of language, for none of us can ever express the exact measure of his needs or his thoughts or his sorrows. And human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude rhythms for bears to dance to, while we long to make music that will melt the stars." Gustav Flaubert

This is why God made the internet, or maybe public access, and I am speaking as someone who remembers RuPaul from his public access days in Atlanta. My life is complete and I can now die happy.
